Ultra-Scratch-Resistant, Hydrophobic and Transparent Organosilicon-Epoxy-Resin Coating with a Double Cross-Link Structure

In this paper, an ultra-scratch-resistant, hydrophobic and transparent coating was fabricated by the sol–gel method using (3-Glycidyloxypropyl) triethoxysilane (GPTES) curing agents. When silanol condensated, ring-opening reaction of epoxy groups also took place, which formed a double-cross-linked network (Si–O–Si R3N). This structure restricted molecule chains from being twisted or dislocated, resulting in great improvement abrasion resistance coating. A pencil hardness grade up to 8H obtained. The showed excellent stability after soaked pH = 2 12 solutions, seawater acetone, respectively. addition, water contact angle 121° obtained post-treatment with hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS). average transmittance reached 90% wavelength range 400~800 nm, nearly identical glass substrate. With multiple desirable properties simple fabrication process, low-cost shows potential many practical applications.
